Living Light Chef Showcase, Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen Part 4

This week I watched 2 demo’s. Both were of Chef Martine Lussier, a faculty member of Living Light Culinary Arts Institute. Both were hosted by Chef Cherie Soria. I love when Cherie hosts- she asks great questions. So did Jenny Cornbleet.. But I am getting side-tracked. Chef Martine made 2 “baked” recipes. By baked I mean dehydrated. The first one was Almond Mila Muffins. The second was Almond Cacao Pistachio Biscotti.
First thing was that Martine is a great teacher. I enjoyed learning from her very much. Secondly, it was great learning how to make some “raw” baked goods. Thirdly, they both looked amazing. (more…)

Living Light Chef Showcase, Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen Part 3

The video demonstration that I watched this week for Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen was of Vinnette Thompson making Lemon Chantilly Bars. Not only do these bars look amazing but I learned so much about how to use irish moss, agar-agar and lecithin. (more…)

Living Light Chef Showcase Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen Part 2

This week has been stressful.. Snow storms, power outages, no heat, stomach flu, and we are moving. In the midst of all this craziness I was able to watch 1 video. I watched Elements Needed For Delicious Raw Cuisine with Cherie Soria. It was a great video- covering spices/seasonings, flavor elements, appliances and gadgets. A must see- especially for a new raw vegan.
Stay tuned for next weeks review- I will be reviewing video demonstrations for Lemn Chantilly Bars, Almond Mila Muffins, and Almond Cacao Pistachio Biscotti.
Check out the website for the showcase to learn more: Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen.

The Adventures of Junk Food Dude By Robyn Openshaw

I am so incredibly excited about this book! It is written by Robyn Openshaw the Green Smoothie Girl and illustrated by Lori Sume. Robyn has a heart to teach children about healthy eating. She did an amazing job. My kids are mid-raw vegans and even they were inspired by the book. The morning after I read it to my boys (ages 4.5, 7, and 10) they were analyzing everything they could eat that would be healthy. The 10 yr old and 4.5 yr old settled on a tray of pea shoots and grapes for a morning snack. The 10 yr old become the healthy eating police! He loves the book and it has been so exciting to see the little ones ask eachother if what they wanted to eat was the healthiest choice. They all want to make sure that they are Green Smoothie Guy’s not Junk Food Dude’s!
I want to make sure that this book gets into the hands of every little kid out there. If I was wealthy I would buy up copies of this book to take into schools, libraries, preschools.. I love it that much! So please buy a book for yourself and then buy a second book to donate to your kids school or to your local library! She has another book coming out- Junk Food Dude’s Recipes. So check into that one too! You can pre-order it now.
I am not joking- I have not been this excited about a book- children’s or otherwise as I am about this one. Healthy eating education starts with the children. Way to go Robyn!!! (more…)

Chico Bags New Blossom Collection

I love Chico Bags! They are my reusable bag of choice. Someday I plan on having some made with my business name on them “Vegan Family Style”. Until then I enjoy using the variety of styles and prints that Chico sells on their website as well as a many retail establishments.
I love their new collection “Blossom“. I love the flowers and pretty spring colors. They hold up to 40 lbs making them the perfect shopping bag.
Everytime I use my Chico Bags when I go shopping I get comments from the cashiers and baggers. I keep a basket in the car with my bags in them. I throw the basket in my shopping cart so that I am always ready but each bag has a little spring loaded clip so you can attach them to a key ring, purse strap, belt loop etc.. (more…)
