Mila
Posted by admin on 01 27th, 2011

I recently had the privilege of trying out a fairly new product called
Mila. Have you heard of it?
The Miracle Seed is gluten–free, trans–fat free, sugar–free, high in fiber and protein, has no taste or smell and can be deliciously combined with many foods! Its supreme biological properties are not diminished by heat in the baking process, therefore making it easy to incorporate into your favorite recipes.
Mila™ is a mixture of Salvia hispanica L. seed (chia) which has been carefully selected to maximize its nutritional value. The mixture is mechanically processed using a proprietary system that optimizes the bioavailability and increases its nutritional value. Nothing is added to the product – it is a pure form of Salvia hispanica L. and is simply the best available today.
It is
chia on steroids! It is fractured so it soaks up the liquid quicker and blends so smoothly. My favorite way to use it is in smoothies- though there are so many more ways to use it.

Naked Beauty By Shakaya Leone
Posted by admin on 12 14th, 2010

This
book is a resource for every woman- young and old alike. My daughter (who is very interested in make-up and plans to go to cosmetology school) has been reading it with much enjoyment- which I am very thankful for. I have been sharing with her how important it will be for her to learn as much as she can about natural beauty tips and tricks. Not everyone can afford to spend $$ on all those high end skin care products. She was so excited to find that pure olive oil removes eye make-up perfectly. No more buying eye make-up remover.
I have learned so much from
Shakaya’s book. I am a big fan of using natural products as much as possible. I am very frugal when it comes to skin care products so to find recipes using natural products that cost pennies compared to what you would buy online or at the store makes me very happy.
Shakaya also addresses how a healthy diet affects our skin which I whole-heartedly agree with. I notice a huge difference in my skin when I have been 100% raw for 5 plus days in a row. It is glowing. It is soft. I also find that my psoriasis and eczema calm down the more raw I eat, the more greens I get into my diet, the more juicing I do, the more water I drink. I also love all the quotes through out the book. There are a few things that are not for me but this is true of just about any book you read.

Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen Video Culinary Classes Pt 1
Posted by admin on 12 12th, 2010
This week I watched the culinary class by Martine Lussier. Her class was on how to make Almond Mila Muffins. I learned so much from her. I really am excited to try this recipe on my own. The muffins looked so soft and moist- like a baked muffin but this was a raw muffin! I can’t tell you how fun it is to sit in on these classes. These are 12 of the world’s top living chefs and I am learning from them how to make my raw food diet more vibrant and exciting!
This week I also watched a video by Chef Colleen Cackowski. In her class she teaches how to make her award winning low glycemic chocolate covered almond butter cup. I learned about tempering raw chocolate which is something I have totally been wanting to learn. She also teaches on low glycemic sweeteners which is something that I feel is very important. There are a lot of people out there who are following a low glycemic diet but I think it is important that everyone include some low glycemic recipes into their diets. (more…)

Winter Warming Diet by Tonya Kay and Joanna Steven
Posted by admin on 12 12th, 2010

This
ebook is not what I expected. I am familiar with
Tonya Kay- she has been a raw vegan for 8 years. I was intrigued just because she was one of the authors. I love reading about others who have been living this lifestyle successfully for much longer than me. The
ebook is co-authored by
Joanna Steven.
The
ebook covers 28 days of Tonya’s life. She shares what she has eaten and drank for the day- the exact amounts. Each day also included a nutritional analysis of the foods eaten for the day. Calories and nutrients. That is very cool. To see first hand the nutrients in what we are eating on a daily basis if we are following a similar diet. Tonya also shares her activity for each day as well.
There are also articles through out the book- leafy greens, nuts, questions and answers and more.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the nutrient content in what they are eating. The only thing I felt the book was lacking was actual recipes. Several things dishes were mentioned that I would have loved to have the recipes for. That said, I still think it is a
very informative book and worth having in your library.
