Tofurkey Holiday Feast

This year for Thanksgiving our family will be enjoying a holiday vegan roast made by Tofurkey. Jeff and the kids love it. Last year we served it to a non-vegan and he enjoyed it as well.

The Tofurky® Roast is a pre-cooked vegetarian feast designed to be the delicious centerpiece of your holiday or everyday meal. Made from a revolutionary tofu-wheat protein blend, our famous Tofurky® Roast is known for its incredible, turkey-like texture and flavor. Stuffed with wild rice and whole wheat bread crumb stuffing, this roast carves and cuts just like turkey but without the bones.

Since it was first marketed in 1995, Tofurky Roasts have been America’s original and best selling alternative to turkey.

You can find the Tofurkey holiday roast can be found at your local health food store and most major grocery stores. I found mine at Raley’s.

Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen Video Culinary Classes
I am excited to be reviewing the Hot Chefs, Cool Kitchen video culinary classes from Living Light Institute. Each week I will review a couple of the demonstrations and interviews. I planned on starting this week but with the storm- we had some power outages that has effected our internet speed- making viewing videos online very slow and painful process. I can tell you that I have gone through the bonus items which I am very excited about. I did watch part of Martine’s presentation on Almond Mila Muffins- oh my! I can’t wait to try these. If you are interested in expanding your raw culinary education then partaking in online culinary classes is a must! You will learn so very much not just in the form of recipe demo’s but also the interviews with the chefs. There is also a q&a with a panel of many of the chefs who contributed to this event. I am excited to watch it. So stay tuned for my reviews- there will be a review a week for the next 8 weeks. Until the next one (expected in a few days) check out the website. (more…)

Ocean Harvest Sea Vegetable Company

Back in August I watched a presentation on sea vegetables by Terry Nieves on Monday Night Live. I took 3 pages of notes. I already knew that sea vegetables were very nutritious but I didn’t know how nutritious they were.
What really intrigued me about Terry’s company is that all of their sea vegetables are harvested by hand. I really enjoyed hearing about how they harvest and dry their sea vegetables. You really can tell the difference. We have tried a lot of sea vegetables over the last year but what we have tasted from Ocean Harvest is hands down the best!

Monday Night Live!! Q&A with Frank Ferrante of May I Be Frank

So last weeks Monday Night Live presentation was a screening of May I Be Frank.
From their website: ”

May I Be Frank documents the transformation of Frank Ferrante’s life. Frank is 54 years old, obese, depressed and addicted. He stumbles into a local raw, organic and vegan restaurant in San Francisco, Café Gratitude. When Ryland, a server at Café Gratitude asks Frank “What is one thing you want to do before you die?” Frank replies, “I want to fall in love one more time, but no one will love me looking the way I do”.

Ryland, his brother Cary, and Conor, his best friend, are inspired by the possibility of helping Frank. For the next 42 days, Frank will eat only raw food, practice gratitude, visit local holistic practitioners, and get a weekly colonic. Ryland, Conor, and Cary get to support Frank’s miraculous transformation. Frank gets a new body, a clearer mind, and most importantly, a soaring spirit. May I Be Frank documents the essence of the human condition and what it truly means to fall in love again.” (more…)

Are You Sure That’s Vegan by Claire Gosse

Are You Sure That’s Vegan? by Claire Gosse

I saw an ad for this book on facebook and had to check it out. Even though I eat mostly a raw food diet there is always a need for a good vegan dessert- especially when you have a house full of children. They love my raw desserts but sometimes they want a cook dessert. I emailed Claire about reviewing her book. She emailed me back with the question “Are you sure? The recipes are vegan but they aren’t exactly healthy.” I told her that it was fine, that we wouldn’t be eating them everyday, but with the holidays coming up- having some great vegan desserts would be a good thing. So she sent me a link to the ebook. Immediately I knew this book would get me through the holidays. She was right- the recipes are anything but healthy! But…they all look delicious and just like their non vegan versions. We are the only vegans in the family. My family is ok with this but we have had a harder time with hubby’s side of the family. They are coming here for Christmas. I am thankful I will have some desserts to knock their socks off and shock them that they are vegan! (more…)
