Naked Beauty By Shakaya Leone
Posted by admin on 12 14th, 2010

This
book is a resource for every woman- young and old alike. My daughter (who is very interested in make-up and plans to go to cosmetology school) has been reading it with much enjoyment- which I am very thankful for. I have been sharing with her how important it will be for her to learn as much as she can about natural beauty tips and tricks. Not everyone can afford to spend $$ on all those high end skin care products. She was so excited to find that pure olive oil removes eye make-up perfectly. No more buying eye make-up remover.
I have learned so much from
Shakaya’s book. I am a big fan of using natural products as much as possible. I am very frugal when it comes to skin care products so to find recipes using natural products that cost pennies compared to what you would buy online or at the store makes me very happy.
Shakaya also addresses how a healthy diet affects our skin which I whole-heartedly agree with. I notice a huge difference in my skin when I have been 100% raw for 5 plus days in a row. It is glowing. It is soft. I also find that my psoriasis and eczema calm down the more raw I eat, the more greens I get into my diet, the more juicing I do, the more water I drink. I also love all the quotes through out the book. There are a few things that are not for me but this is true of just about any book you read.

Winter Warming Diet by Tonya Kay and Joanna Steven
Posted by admin on 12 12th, 2010

This
ebook is not what I expected. I am familiar with
Tonya Kay- she has been a raw vegan for 8 years. I was intrigued just because she was one of the authors. I love reading about others who have been living this lifestyle successfully for much longer than me. The
ebook is co-authored by
Joanna Steven.
The
ebook covers 28 days of Tonya’s life. She shares what she has eaten and drank for the day- the exact amounts. Each day also included a nutritional analysis of the foods eaten for the day. Calories and nutrients. That is very cool. To see first hand the nutrients in what we are eating on a daily basis if we are following a similar diet. Tonya also shares her activity for each day as well.
There are also articles through out the book- leafy greens, nuts, questions and answers and more.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the nutrient content in what they are eating. The only thing I felt the book was lacking was actual recipes. Several things dishes were mentioned that I would have loved to have the recipes for. That said, I still think it is a
very informative book and worth having in your library.

Healthy Holidays Survival Manual by Chef Heather Haxo Phillips
Posted by admin on 11 28th, 2010
Earlier this month in the bay area there was an event- an event I wish I could have gone to. Healthy Holiday Survival Course was put on by Raw Bay Area and Chef Heather Haxo Phillips. This book was created from this event.
Many bay area raw vegan chefs came together to do raw food demos, share tips to get through the holidays while staying raw and in the end share a holiday meal together. Some of my favorite chefs where there- Abeba Wright, Diana Stobo, Martine Lussier, Melissa Mango and of course Chef Heather Haxo Phillips. There were many vendors as well-selling their products and sharing samples. The chefs also came together and did a panel q&a. If you live in the Bay Area you need to check this group out and if they have this event again next year- go, you won’t regret it.
Ok- on to the book. This book is amazing. So many great recipes that I can wait to try this holiday season. There are tons of great tips as well. You can order the printed version or the ebook version. (more…)

Superfood Beauty Elixirs by Christian Bates and Bethanne Wanamaker
Posted by admin on 11 1st, 2010

Superfood Beauty Elixirs by Christian Bates and Bethanne Wanamaker is a powerhouse of nutritional information. I am so excited by all that I have learned from this ebook. I learned more about superfoods and making Super Tonic herbal teas (which I have been doing ever since. My daughters and I drink at least 2 qts each a day of a herbal tea blend that has 3 different herbs in it- as money permits I will be ordering more herbs to be able to customize them for different members of the family). I have been working at getting more liquid nutrition into my diet and have made a list of superfoods to get to try out all of these recipes. My husband is very much into liquid nutrition. He has always been into getting herbs in powdered form rather than capsules. He will drink them just with water- yuk! I am sure he will be pleasantly surprised when I make some Christian and Bethanne’s recipes for him. (more…)

Heal Yourself 101 by Markus Rothkranz
Posted by admin on 10 11th, 2010

I absolutely love Markus’s Free Food and Medicine DVD set. I have watched it several times over the last few months and learned so much about wild edibles that for a couple of months (late Spring, Early Summer) I didn’t have to buy any greens for our smoothies. I had enough wild edibles on my property to make our smoothies every day- I even had leftovers which I dehydrated and made into powder for future smoothies.
Like the DVD’s I learned a lot from the book. I enjoy Markus’s style. He is down to earth and he believes that you don’t have to break the bank to live this lifestyle- something I believe firmly in.
I also enjoyed learning more about his transformation. This book is chock full of information. I know I will be referring to it again. (more…)
