Homestead Harvest sent me this
VacMaster Pro 90 so I could venture into the world of vacuum sealing.
They sent me the attachment to seal canning jars as well. The unit came with 1 canister and some bags. I haven’t tried the canister yet but I have tried the canning jar sealing attachment and the bags.
I was very impressed with the accessory for sealing the jars. The lids are nice and tight- as if I had water bath canned them. It was very easy to use.
Sealing in the bags took a little more getting used to. I made several mistakes but got the hang of it. One thing I learned- no matter how much water you press out of tofu before vacuum sealing there will still be more water to come out which makes it impossible for the unit to seal the bag! So don’t try it. I was successful with sealing a bag of frozen strawberries..
I was told that this particular unit will use any vacuum sealing bags sold at warehouse stores or Walmart which makes it a plus, I don’t have to mail order more bags. I also cut off the top of an old ziplock bag and got a successful seal with the unit. So when you have a ziplock that isn’t working properly you could still use it.
I sealed all of my spices (I buy them in bulk). This summer I plan on making my own green powders to add to smoothies and to grow and dry my own herbs. I will put the powder and herbs into canning jars. I will seal them for winter storage.
I am very happy with this unit. I am looking forward to using it this summer as I get summer fruit and veggies into the freezer.
