About the Film- Food Matters
From the official website:
“Let thy Food be thy Medicine and thy Medicine be thy Food” – Hippocrates. That is the message from the founding father of modern medicine echoed in the controversial new documentary film Food Matters from Producer-Directors James Colquhoun and Laurentine ten Bosch.
With nutritionally-depleted foods, chemical additives and our tendency to rely upon pharmaceutical drugs to treat what’s wrong with our malnourished bodies, it’s no wonder that modern society is getting sicker. Food Matters sets about uncovering the trillion dollar worldwide ‘sickness industry’ and gives people some scientifically verifiable solutions for overcoming illness naturally.
In what promises to be the most contentious idea put forward, the filmmakers have interviewed several leading experts in nutrition and natural healing who claim that not only are we harming our bodies with improper nutrition, but that the right kind of foods, supplements and detoxification can be used to treat chronic illnesses as fatal as terminally diagnosed cancer.
The focus of the film is in helping us rethink the belief systems fed to us by our modern medical and health care establishments. The interviewees point out that not every problem requires costly, major medical attention and reveal many alternative therapies that can be more effective, more economical, less harmful and less invasive than conventional medical treatments.
The ‘Food Matters’ duo have independently funded the film from start to finish in order to remain as unbiased as possible, delivering a clear and concise message to the world. Food Matters.

‘Food Matters’ was created to help my father combat Chronic Fatigue, Depression and Anxiety. He has utilized the information within this DVD to heal his body naturally and withdraw from all toxic medications. What we learned throughout this journey was so astounding that we wished to share it with countless others.
My Father’s Story…
“I am a Chartered Accountant and Registered Company Auditor. For 23 years I was the principal of a large Chartered Accountancy practice. In 2002 I started to get unwell on a regular basis with severe flu like symptoms. At this time my health generally was in a poor state. I was over weight, consumed an unhealthy meat and dairy based diet and drank to much alcohol . I was working very long hours in my business and was totally unaware I was in a highly stressed, constant “fight or flight” enhanced state for what turned out to be a period of many years. This heightened level of stress and anxiety had become the normal day to day state for me. I was so conditioned to this “on edge” state I had become totally devoid of any other feelings of well being.
By 30th June 2003 my health had deteriorated to a point whereby I suffered from total adrenal exhaustion. My body literally shut down. For months on end I was bed ridden too ill to get up with severe flu like symptoms. I thought I had contracted some severe tropical disease.
My medical practitioner at the time diagnosed me with chronic fatigue syndrome, prescribed me anti depressants and referred me to a psychiatrist. Unbeknown to me at the time this was the catalyst for my health and well being to take a serious downward spiral.
With my long term professional background I was totally convinced the answer to my ongoing ill health was to be found only from the main stream of the medical profession. This being my very strong belief I sought referrals to a whole range of specialist medical practitioners including psychiatrists and psychologists in my determined quest to get myself well again.
By this time my long term ill health had forced me to sell my accountancy practice and retire from the workforce.
The end result of all the specialist medical practitioners advice was a hopeless situation of over medication. I was on a cocktail of anti depressants, antipsychotics, anxiety medication and sleeping tablets. My life was a psychotic daze and was spiraling downward out of control. Ultimately this lead to my psychiatrist admitting me to a specialist psychiatric hospital for a period of 30 days. This hospitalization did not help and all that was achieved was a change in the ingredients of my cocktail of prescription medication.
Following this period in hospital I felt helpless and feelings of hopelessness started to predominate my life. Nothing the medical profession could throw at me was working. I did not think I had anywhere else to turn. Suicide was becoming a frightening and very real option.
During this time being the lowest ebb in my life my son James and his wife Laurentine were traveling the world interviewing leaders in nutrition and natural medicine for the production of their DVD ‘Food Matters’. Understandably my deteriorating state of health was of great concern to James and Laurentine. Following their education and research for their DVD they knew they could help and had the answers.
They lobbed on my door step and I was told they were not leaving until I had recovered. Notwithstanding my hopeless state of health I was initially very suspicious and skeptical of their ability to help me. I kept defaulting to my professional background and beliefs. If the best of the medical profession could not help me how could my son and daughter-in-law with their nutrition and vitamin based approach help. Their approach was never going to work was my ill founded belief. (Me of little faith).
With some not so gentle persuasion from my loving wife, James and Laurentine I guardedly decided to give it a go. However not before I had done some of my own research reading two of the many research books James and Laurentine had with them, being Andrew Saul’s “Doctor yourself” and Patrick Holford’s “ The New Optimum Nutrition Bible”. I was now beginning to think that may be James and laurentine were on to something good.
James and Laurentine recommended a clinical dose of vitamins and minerals to replace all my prescription medications. At the same time I was ordered onto a 10 day cleanse eating only raw food and no alcohol and continuing on a special diet thereafter.
After 5 years on heavy doses of anti depressants, antipsychotics, anxiety medication and sleeping tablets I went cold turkey and ceased taking all the prescription medication over night and replaced the medication with clinical doses of vitamins and minerals. My medical specialist’s had all warned me of ceasing the medication at once and the possibility of major withdrawal symptoms. Maybe I was just lucky or had the right clinical amount of vitamins because I am still waiting for the withdrawal side effects. It has now been 2 years since I ceased the prescription medication.
I am now fully recovered thanks to James and Laurentine, my loving wife Megan and family. I still religiously take my clinical doses of vitamins daily.
I was a really tough case to convince that natural remedies would work where mainstream medicine had hopelessly failed to help me. If I had not ceased all the prescription medication and replaced this with the vitamins recommended by James and Laurentine in August 2007, my health and life style at that stage was in such a poor and hopeless state that unfortunately I don’t believe I would be here today to write this testimonial. If my only alternative was a life distorted by the ugly and demeaning effects of a cocktail of prescription drugs I would have ended my life.
Thank you James and Laurentine and of course my wife Megan for your gentle persuasion and love.”
